Last day in the plains

on
30. June 2018

If yesterday was a hot day, today is even hotter. For the first time the mercury exceeds 40 degrees and it feels great. That would be a super therma lift while playing golf that would carry the balls a few meters further without any problems. For a non-distance hunter like me, that’s great. In any case, I enjoyed the evening yesterday, after it took me over six hours to write my report. Without the internet it is difficult to work efficiently. No idea why the connection is so bad here. Also today it will tough going again.

I miss the Notte Bianca

Anyway, all hell is breaking loose in Fiorenzuola d’Arda today. The town celebrates the Notte Bianca. Hundreds of tables are set up, bands bring their stages and their instruments. You can feel the anticipation of the locals for the evening. Unfortunately I will not be there by then. My way today leads me further to Fidenza – about 22 kilometers away. Due to the noise on the streets I am on the road early and start walking in a relaxed way. It is really hot today. For people who are not so heat-resistant, this time of year is not really suitable for pilgrimages. But I have had pure sunshine for weeks now. I love that. I arrive shortly after noon and move into my pension. Rooms with toilet, shower in the corridor and above all a washing machine. Very convenient. And all that for 25 euro.

The call of the mountains

From today on the endless flat stages are over. It‘s all hills and mountains. Tomorrow I have to tackle 400 meters of altitude before I really start climbing. I do hope my physical condition will be good enough for that. Although I’m more worried about the descents. We’ll see. I have no time pressure. Anyway, I’m looking forward to new views and perspectives. In the long run, the Po Valley is pretty monotonous with its wide fields.
